sooo sorry about the delay on sending you guy's what we've done so far, school has been mad crazy that it totally slipped my mind.
This is the sort of style we are going for, but we have a lot of refinements that we need to do, but this is essentially what we are doing.. All the photos I am using are one's that I took when I was home in California. We are also experimenting with printing on different papers (off-white and various brown shades). We have also been experimenting with layering and burning paper. Irina is doing the drawings which are going to be layered over the graphics that I have made..
Soo, here is some of the first drafts: (let us know what you guys think! :)

  1. Okay, so here are my thoughts:

I like this page the most:

I guess I'm just a little worried that there's too much going on. If every page is too full of imagery soon it starts to take over and the text will become secondary.

If you noticed, in the layout we sent there were a few blank pages. Those could be dedicated to the more complex images and maybe we could stick to simpler forms for the rest.

There are also a lot of different techniques being used in the images (photos, geometric shapes, burnt texture, & possibly more illustrations on top?). I'm wondering if maybe we could simplify it to just two different techniques throughout.

I hope I'm not coming off like a complete bitch, I think you have some good stuff going on, but there is such thing as too much of a good thing ;)

It sounds like you guys are doing a lot of work which we appreciate, I just want to remind you though that we have to hand this in on Wednesday which means that Maggie and I need files by Monday at the latest so we have time to put stuff together on our end.

Also, our teacher had the same comments about the titles being too large, he also suggested we add a 1/2" or so to the bottom of the page, in order to give the poems a bit more room to breath. We've since made some adjustments to the copy, minor things like punctuation & making sure the right dashes are being used etc. We can do a file swap once you guys have your images ready, and then maybe we can all work on the layouts.

    One last thing:

We haven't really discussed a title or the cover much, so we'd love to hear your thoughts.

  3. Hey Jen,
    - For the images/layouts, we got the same feedback from our teacher about making sure it doesn't overpower the text, so we are cropping the images lower and in various areas that don't bombard the text. Those layouts was our first round, so we have since then simplified.
    - We're still working on the layouts and refining them. Our teacher gave the class an extra week to get everything together, but we will send you the layouts by the end of tonight (we're rushing right now to get it done). We'll post them on the blog and send you the files/pdf's.
-Also, could you send us PDF's of your work, just because we are working in CS2 and then we can just layer in the images (its very simplified now, so it doesn't over power the text) but we can also give you our files if you need to make adjustments for your class Wednesday.
